The "World's Only Corn Palace" is located in a small town called Mitchell roughly 75 miles west of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Each year the exterior murals of the Corn Palace are decorated from a combination of locally grown corn, grasses, oats, blue grass,
rye and wheat.
These panels depict important facets of life in South Dakota with an emphasis on the agricultural heritage of South Dakota.
Every year, a different theme is chosen and the murals are created based on the designs of local artists.
This tradition goes back over 110 years when the first Corn Palace was built in 1892. Today, the Corn Palace is a great boost to
the local economy and a popular "free admission" attraction off of I-90 as it draws close to 500,000 visitors per year.
Here are a few pictures of some of the murals taken at the Corn Palace.
